PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting unit for an article detecting camera improved so as to improve the quality of an image of an article without exposing the article to thermal load. SOLUTION: An article carrier system is provided with a conveyor for carrying an article by mounting the article on an upper side and an image capturing device for detecting each article on the conveyor and forming an image signal for showing the image of the article. The image capturing device is provided with the lighting unit constituted of matrices of a plurality of light emitting diodes, an image capturing unit for receiving light beam radiated by the matrices and changed by an article existing on a path of light beam and forming the image signal and a control unit which is connected with the matrices and the image capturing unit and making he matrices pulsively emit light.
