PURPOSE: A display element combining an organic luminescent mode and a reflective liquid crystal mode is provided to implement the organic luminescent mode and the reflective liquid crystal mode with a combined mode, to change a mode by responding to adjacent brightness, so that excellent contrast is maintained regardless of the adjacent brightness. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode(121) to which a voltage and a current is applied is formed on a first substrate(110). A luminescent layer(122) emitting light by a current is formed on an upper surface of the first electrode(121). A second electrode(123) to which a voltage and a current is applied is formed on an upper surface of the luminescent layer(122). A third electrode(141) to which a voltage is applied is formed on an upper part of the second electrode(123). A second substrate(144) is formed on an upper surface of the third electrode(141). At least a polarizer(143) is formed on an upper surface of the second substrate(144). And liquid crystal(L) is injected between the first and second substrates(110,144).
