During the shutting off of the engine, the electric machine (1) of the starter/generator resets the crankshaft (3) to a predefined rest position, from which the rotation position of the crankshaft is clearly defined before the re-starting of the engine. This allows a rapid start of the engine, even before the crankshaft has completed a complete rotation.
