PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an achromatic color part from being colored even on the occurrence of an error in the gradation of the achromatic color part of a color difference signal due to intruded noise or an error of a clamp level at analog/digital conversion or the like. SOLUTION: Analog/digital conversion sections 1a, 1b, 1c convert Y signal, R-Y, B-Y color difference signals into digital signals, the color difference signals are given to gradation conversion sections 2a, 2b, where the gradation is converted, the resulting signals are given to a matrix circuit 3 together with the luminance signal from the analog/digital conversion section 1a, where the signals are converted into R, G, B signals and outputted. The gradation conversion sections 2a, 2b convert color data within a prescribed gradation range (128±1-2 gradations in the case of 8-bit color data) at a low color level into the achromatic color gradations (128 gradations).
