PURPOSE: A cathode active material and a lithium secondary battery employing the active material are provided, wherein the active material is improved in the cycle characteristics and storage stability at a high temperature, inhibits the irreversible loss and the overcharge and is made at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: The cathode active material comprises 30-90 wt% of a multiple-doped lithium nickel cobalt oxide represented by the formula 1: LixNiyCozMnO2; and 10-70 wt% of a lithium manganese oxide represented by the formula 2: LiaMn2-bM1bO4. In the formula 1, M is at least two selected from the group consisting of Fe, Ga, Ge, Al, Ti, V, Cu, Zn, Mn, Si, P, Nb, Ta, Zr, Zn, Sn, Sb, Pt, In, Ag, Au, Bi, Pd and W; x is 0.5-1; y is 0.65-0.90; z is 0.05-0.30; and n is 0.05-0.225. In the formula 2, a is 0.98-1.02; b is 0-0.2; and M1 is at least one selected from the group consisting of Co, Cr and Ti. |
