Analysis and measurement of constituents in drilling fluid involves evaporation of substances for assessment by chromatography and mass spectrometry during drilling

The method to analyze and measure substances carried by shaft fluids, during drilling takes a sample for the constituents to be vaporized. The nature and/or quantity of the constituents are registered in a gas phase by chromatography. The vapors are carried to a mass spectrometer to determine the ratio of <13>C:<12>C carbon isotopes contained within the constituents. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus to analyze and measure the constituents carried in a drilling fluid with a combined chromatography for the gas phase, and mass spectrometry to determine the ratio of <13>C:<12>C of carbon isotopes carried in the fluid constituents.
