PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an area transparent wherein a display in a transparent color is desired. SOLUTION: This apparatus includes: a frame memory which has a 1st area where main image data are stored and a 2nd area wherein OSD data are stored; a display buffer memory which stores the main image data and OSD data read out of the frame memory; and a control part which controls access to the frame memory and display buffer memory. The control part reads the main image data and OSD data out and writes them to the display buffer memory. The control part includes; a threshold storage circuit which prescribes the range of a luminance signal for specifying the transparent color when the OSD data are displayed; and a transparent color control circuit which writes the OSD data having a luminance signal outside the transparent color specification range based upon a threshold to the display buffer memory, and leaves the main image data in the display buffer memory without writing OSD data having a luminance signal within the transparent color specification area based upon the threshold to the display buffer memory.
