A system that can distribute data to its clients in user specified forms, the data being partly configured dependent on the platform that the client uses. The system receives requests for data from at least one client and then has a means for configuring that data so that it is in a form compatible with a platform upon which the client is supported and configured according to the user specification. Also disclosed is a system configured to generate a display from a user data requirements specification, where the system contains a means for generating an updated user data requirements specification from the requirements specification and at least one style specification and a means for distributing this updated specification to a display generation machine. This method and system allow continuity of data/information/services to be provided to the user, alongside portability with respect to the supporting platform.
