PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an olefin polymer with a high catalyst activity without using an expensive catalyst component. SOLUTION: This catalyst comprising [A] a metallocene compound containing a transition metal selected from groups 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the periodic table, [B] an ionic compound represented by [(E1)n+]1/n(L1)h(Q1)- [wherein, (E1)n+ is an n-valent cation containing at least one kind of atom selected from the group consisting of atoms of groups 1, 3 to 11 and 13 to 16 of the periodic table; L1 is Lewis base; (Q1)- is an anion containing boron element; and h is 0<=h<=10], [C] a topotactic reducing reactional product accompanying electron transfer and [D] an organoaluminum compound is used.
