PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially excellent method for producing a 2,2'- bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'- biphenyldicarboxylic acid comprises the following process: a 4- alkoxycarbonyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)chlorobenzene or 4-cyano-2-(trifluoromethyl) chlorobenzene is dimerized to form 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'- dialkoxycarbonylbiphenyl or 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-dicyanobiphenyl, respectively, which is then hydrolyzed. |
