PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces the warming-up time, fixes an image of high quality at a higher speed, stabilizes fixing and exhibits long life and superior maintainability. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a fixing device 10 which moves a fixing belt 14 heated by a heat roll 12 and holds a transfer material P between a pair of rotating pressure rolls 11A and 11B to carry it and fixes a toner image t on the transfer material P by heat. The movement speed V2 of the fixing belt 14 is made higher than the movement speed V1 at the time of steady fixing when temperature decrease of pressure rolls 11A and 11B is detected at the time of warming-up of the fixing device 10 and printing.
