TEMPERATURE DETECTOR AND FIXING APPARATUS INCLUDING THIS DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temperature detector which detects the surface temperature of a fixing member without contact with the fixing member and detects temperatures of a plurality of positions of the fixing member with a small number of sensors. SOLUTION: The temperature detector is used for a fixing apparatus which brings a first fixing member and a second fixing member into contact with each other to constitute a fixing nip part and heats a form bearing an unfixed toner image while holding this form in the fixing nip part to carry it and thus fixes the unfixed toner image on the form. The temperature detector is provided with: an infrared sensor which is arranged without contact with the first fixing member to detect infrared rays emitted from the first fixing member for the purpose of detecting the temperature of the first fixing member; and a selection means which selectively leads infrared rays emitted from respective detection positions to the infrared sensor to detect the temperatures in a plurality of positions of the first fixing member.
