PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of reducing a protector of a column and eliminating an influence of chips. SOLUTION: This machine tool 1 comprises a table 3 provided on a bed 2, a main spindle 7 having a tool K for machining an article T to be machined on the table 3, a main spindle head 6 supporting the main spindle 7 on the table 3 side and moving in the orthogonal first direction orthogonal on the table 3, and column 5 provided on the bed 3 so as to support the main spindle head 6 and moving relatively moving in a third direction orthogonal to both first and second directions with regard to the table 3. The machine tool 1 is extended in the third direction, and provided with a first protector 11 for dividing a machining area A in the table 3 side and a machining area B in the column side, an opening portion 16 formed on the first protector 11 and accepting a movement of the main spindle 7 between the machining area A and the machining area B with a movement of the column 5, and a second protector 12 provided on the opening portion 16 of the first protector 11 and expanded/contracted in the first direction so as to open/close the opening portion 16.
