PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a rough-drawn copper wire having good surface quality, which is mass-productable at a low cost, by reducing the produced quantity of copper powder so as t o be able to restrain the breaking of the wire and the clogging of a die caused by the copper powder at the wire drawing. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for producing the rough-drawn copper wire, is provided with a melting furnace A for making molten copper by performing the combustion, a holding furnace B for holding the molten copper fed from the melting furnace A at a prescribed temperature, a casting trough C for transporting the molten copper fed from the holding furnace B to a tundish 5, a belt-caster type continuous casting machine D for introducing the molten copper supplied from the tundish 5 as a copper material 23 and a rolling mill E for guiding the copper material 23 into the inner part, and rolling with rolling rolls composed of metal containing iron. Further, an atmosphere control means 61 which makes of the mill E the inner part being a low oxygen partial pressure by introducing the gaseous nitrogen into the mill E, is provided in the apparatus 1.
