PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain saw capable of preventing a housing from suffering damage by coming off from a guide bar of a saw chain and its breaking. SOLUTION: A chain saw has a guide bar part projecting ahead from a side surface of a housing of a main body. A saw chain carries out circulation sliding movement along a saw chain travelling route comprising an advancing route part of moving from the side surface to a tip of the guide bar part and a returning route part of moving from the tip of the guide bar part to the side surface. The chain saw has a protection plate component for protecting the housing. The protection plate component includes a side surface protective part for covering a part adjacent to the saw chain travelling route in the side surfaces of the housing, and a front surface protective part covering a part adjacent to the returning route part in the front surface of the housing.
