PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening/closing device for box generating a large braking force despite its small size. SOLUTION: The opening/closing device for the box B borne rotatably by a supporting structure P in which the opening/closing operation is controlled by a cord type air damper A having a cylinder 1, which is fixed to either of the supporting structure P and box B, while the other member is furnished with a guide part 9 on which a cord 4 coupled with the piston of the damper A is set over in its middle, and the free end 4a of the cord 4 set on the guide part 9 in the folded-back condition is fixed to one of the members directly or indirectly, and thereby the braking force can be made approximately double as large even if the air damper is of small size, so that this is applicable to a large-sized box or a box loaded fully with heavy objects with satisfactory performance.
