PURPOSE: A polymeric composition for reference electrode membrane and reference electrode using the same are provided to reduce activating time on measurement, to improve reliability and to simplify the structure thereof. CONSTITUTION: A composition for reference electrode membrane of an electric potential detector comprises hydrophilic plasticizer and polymer for plastic backing. The hydrophilic plasticizer is one or more selected from a group of glycerol, polyethylene glycol, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol and form amide. The polymer for plastic backing is selected from a group of polyurethane, silicone rubber, poly(vinyl chloride) and cellulose acetate. 0.001-1.0 weight % of adhesive strength improving substance is added to the composition to form a reference electrode membrane. The adhesive strength improving substance is selected from highly-reactive silicides comprising silicon tetrachloride, aminopropyltriethoxy silane, N-(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl)ethylenediamine, N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane, 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane, N-(2-(vinylbenzylamino)-ethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, methyltrimethoxysilane and phenyltrimethhoxysilane.
