PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the initial abnormality of a rotary apparatus at high precision. SOLUTION: An analogue signal generated at a bearing 2 is collected with a microphone, which is amplified with an amplifier 5 and converted into digital, and then the digital signal is outputted to a data processing part 11. The data processing part 11 discrete-wavelet-converts the digital signal to a discrete wavelet for acquiring wavelet coefficients at a plurality of resolution levels. The wavelet coefficient of each level is fast-Fourier-transformed to acquire the frequency characteristics of wavelet coefficient of each level, to judge abnormality based on comparison with a correct pattern for the frequency characteristics and the degree of increase from a monitoring frequency.
