HANDLING OF LONG PACKET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch for switching a packet from a plurality of sources to decrease a required memory amount. SOLUTION: A switch comprises a memory for storing part of a packet, and a transfer mechanism for transferring a predetermined part to the memory when the predetermined part of the packet is received. A method for switching the packet has the steps of receiving part of the packet in the transfer mechanism of the switch; and next transferring the predetermined part of the packet to the memory of the switch when the predetermined part of the packet is received by the transfer mechanism.
