The invention relates to a device for levelling the coal with which the retort of a coke oven is filled, comprising a leveller bar (2) which is connected to a leveller drive (1), which can be moved in and out of the retort (4) through a levelling opening (3) and which performs a levelling movement back and forth in the retort (4). According to the invention, the leveller bar (2) has a rake blade (5) at its front end. The width of this rake blade can be adjusted by means of an operating device (6) which is located in the leveller bar (2).
