PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling edge dams in a twin roll strip caster are provided to prevent casting stoppage due to outflow of molten steel and extend the life time of the edge dams by properly controlling the edge dams, thereby preventing outflow of molten steel between the edge dams and rolls. CONSTITUTION: In ordinary edge dams(5) which are installed at both ends of rolls(1,1a) to prevent outflow of molten metal(4) between the rolls(1,1a), the apparatus for controlling the edge dams in a twin roll strip caster is characterized in that hydraulic cylinders(6,6a,6b) are installed parallel to each other at both sides of the upper part and the center of the lower part of the outer surface of the edge dams(5) that are installed at both sides of the rolls(1,1a), load cells(7,7a,7b) are installed at the front part of the hydraulic cylinders(6,6a,6b) respectively, and position detectors(8,8a,8b) installed on the hydraulic cylinders(6,6a,6b) to detect position of the hydraulic cylinders(6,6a,6b) are connected to servo valves(9,9a,9b) for controlling pressure using electric signals by means of hydraulic pipes(10,10a,10b).
