A microarray assay system using an array-of-arrays plate (10, 60, 80, 85) mounted on the top surface of a vacuum fixture (32), and an automatic handling system that handles the plate (10, 60, 80, 85) and fixture (32) assembly. The A2 plate (10, 60, 80, 85) includes a tray (12) formed of a flexible material and a rigid frame (14) for mounting on the fixture (32). The fixture (32) has a plurality of orifices (36) opening at the top surface and connected to a vacuum source to create a negative pressure to hold the flexible plate (10, 60, 80, 85) against the top surface of the fixture (32). The automatic handling systems that can be used with the plate (10, 60, 80, 85) and fixture (32) assembly include a microarray printing machine (92), liquid handling robot, hybridization and incubation devices, and microarray imaging devices. |
