PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating method which is capable of performing the decomposition treatment of garbage by aerobic fermentation stable in a natural environment without using special bacteria and a device therefor. SOLUTION: The pulverized wooden matter, which is obtained by pulverizing waste wooden materials by a screw type pulverizing device B constituted to crush and pulverize the waste wooden materials while grinding down the waste wooden materials during pressurizing the same and extrude the materials into the atmosphere, is used as the fermentation assistant. This fermentation assistant and the garbage are fed into a fermenter 1 having agitating means 16 where both are agitated and mixed. The garbage is subjected to the decomposition treatment under the aerobic atmosphere while the inside of the fermenter is subjected to ventilation 7, 8 and 9.
