PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to manufacture a silicon carbide fiber/silicon carbide matrix composite material with high strength, heat resistance and non- brittle fracture by the polymer impregnation method applying radiation. SOLUTION: Silicon carbide fiber or cloth is impregnated with silicon-based polymer comprising polycarbosilane mixed with 5-35 wt.% of polyvinylsilane and a pre-ceramic shaped body is formed. Radiation is applied to the shaped body to prevent it from melting and the resulting body is fired in an inert gas atmosphere to give a composite material comprising silicon carbide matrix reinforced with silicon carbide fiber. |
