PURPOSE: A locking device for a sliding door is provided to open and close a sliding door conveniently by locking up automatically when closing a door and rotating a lever to the appointed angle when opening a door. CONSTITUTION: The locking device for a sliding door is fitted to one side of a sliding door and comprises a bracket(10) fitted with a knob lever to be rotatable, a casing(20) fixed to the bracket(10) by bolts(17,18), a regulating instrument(30) fitted to the casing(20) to control the projecting length of a latch(50), a cam(40) fitted to the upper part of a regulating plate(31) of the regulating instrument(30), a primary spring(46) fitted between a groove of the cam(40) and the casing(20), a secondary spring(47) fitted between the latch(50) and the casing(20), and a cover(60) covering up the casing(20).
