PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head having excellent overwriting characteristics while magnetic pole width is made extremely minute and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A thin film coil 14 is disposed in a rear region corresponding to the thickness of a first magnetic pole tip part 12C(1) in an upper part magnetic layer 12C. Since the thickness of the thin film coil 14 can be optimized, the necessary and sufficient quantity of magnetic flux can be generated by energizing the thin film coil 14.
