PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication unit that can prevent a load from being imposed on a server due to a large data amount resulting, in causing system faults, when attaching a color image to an electronic mail and transmitting the resulting electronic mail. SOLUTION: The image communication unit, that can transmit image data to other device via a public communication channel network, reduces the data quality of the image data to a prescribed quantity or below (S322-S324), when a mail transmission mode where transmission by an electronic mail is made is selected (S318), and attaches the resulting image data to the electronic mail and transmits the resulting electronic mail (S325-S328).
