PURPOSE: A HTN mode liquid crystal display is provided to obtain a high response time, control a twist angle and a tilt angle of liquid crystal, and realize the wide viewing angle by using alignment films having a low anchoring energy. CONSTITUTION: A HTN mode liquid crystal display includes first and second substrates(31,41), a first alignment film(33) formed on either the first or second substrate in a different alignment direction from neighboring domains, a second alignment film(35) formed on the other substrate in the same alignment direction with neighboring domains, and a liquid crystal layer(37) formed between the first and second alignment films with a twist angle in the range of 40-90° and a tilt angle in the range of 80-90°.
