PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the oxidation of a reforming catalyst completely or as perfectly as possible in starting or stopping a reformer for PEFC and to smoothly execute the starting and the stopping. SOLUTION: This method is used for starting the reformer in a reformer system including he reformer connected to a solid high polymer type fuel cell, a CO converter and a CO oxidizing unit. In this case, the method for starting and stopping the reformer for the solid high polymer type fuel cell is characterized in that when the reforming catalyst of a reforming part of the reformer is heated at the startup thereof, one or more kinds of flow gases selected from a group comprising the air, a combustion exhaust gas, steam, a raw gas and nitrogen are passed through the reforming catalyst to heat it while changing them depending on the temperature of the reforming catalyst in order to prevent the oxidation of the reform catalyst. |
