PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer of good operability and a method for displaying a reproducing mode for it by which the reproduction of digital audio video data and the switching operation of an object to be reproduced can be performed easily and speedily and a user can recognize the individual switching states easily. SOLUTION: When the reproducing mode of a disk media is selected with a mode control switch 116, reproduction processing of a CD medium is carried out and a tray icon PM showing the reproducing mode is displayed in a tray icon displaying area (TI) on a display screen 121. When the reproducing mode of digital audio video data is selected by the switch 116, reproduction processing of the data is carried out and a tray icon PD showing the reproducing mode is displayed in the area (TI).
