PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily decide whether or not the operation of a shutter button is made effective when a battery power source is turned on since free capacity information is stored in a flash memory that can be accessed faster than a magnetooptic disk. SOLUTION: When the mangetooptic disk 46 is loaded and a slot 66 is closed, a system controller 50 supplies a corresponding state signal to a CPU 34. Then the CPU 34 instructs a disk controller 38 to reads disk information out. The disk controller 38 drives a spindle motor 44, an optical pickup 40, and a recording head 42 to reads free capacity information out of the magnetooptic disk 46. The read free capacity information is sent to the CPU 34, which saves it in the flash memory 36.
