PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attach a profile in an input original sheet as a profile of an input image unit to the input image by automatically generating the profile in the input original sheet in response to the brightness or the state of the original sheet. SOLUTION: An image read unit 1 of an image processing unit comprises an image reader 11 for reading the image recorded on a paper medium as electronic data, a substrate sensor for sensing substrate data of the medium from the data read by the reader 11, and a color characteristic description profile processing unit 14 for changing the profile describing color characteristics in image reading by the reader 11 based on the substrate data sensed by the sensor.
