PURPOSE: A control unit of an automatic transmission is provided to sufficiently display the effect of neutral control by shortening the time from stopping of a vehicle to release of an input clutch. CONSTITUTION: A control unit of an automatic transmission has a vehicle speed sensor(32), a device for forecasting stop of a vehicle(26), and an input clutch control unit(26). The vehicle speed sensor detects the speed of a vehicle. The device for forecasting stop of a vehicle forecasts the vehicle will stop soon through the vehicle speed detected from the vehicle speed sensor. The input clutch control unit lowers hydraulic pressure of a hydraulic servomechanism(C1) of the input clutch control unit from hydraulic pressure of interlock fit state to the fixed atmospheric pressure being able to keep the interlock fit state of the input clutch. The release movement of the input clutch according to the neutral control is started from the atmospheric pressure state. Therefore, the effect of the neutral control is sufficiently obtained.
