In a display device (11) for showing signals from sensors for detecting space reserved for traffic around a vehicle there are display elements (2a,2b,3,4a,4b,8a,8b,9,10a,10b,11) in the surface (7) or in the frame (6) of an external rear-view mirror (5). These display elements can be luminous diodes that use colours to symbolize different dangerous conditions and fit in a geometrical pattern to match the space around the vehicle.
