Process for producing bacterial strains which produce 2-keto-L-gulonic acid from L-sorbose

A process for producing a microorganism strain that enhances production of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KLG) from L-sorbose comprises culturing the strain NRLL B-21627 (or mutants or variants thereof) in the presence of a growth-inhibiting amount of a derivative or analog of 2-KLG; and recovering cells capable of growth.
