A rotary kiln used for efficient drying, dry distillation and incineration of various wastes including garbage and industrial wastes. The kiln comprises a cylindrical furnace body (10) inclined to an extent, a cylindrical contact heater (20) held in the furnace body (10), drive means (30) for rotating the furnace body (10) and the contact heater (20), an entrance port (61) through which wastes are thrown, a discharge port (18), supply means (40) for supplying combustion gas into the cylinder of the contact heater (20), and means (50) for guiding the combustion gas from the distal end to the proximity end of the contact heater (20), further guiding the combustion gas from the proximity end to the distal end of a space (S) between the contact heater (20) and the furnace body (10), and discharging it.
