PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a wide viewing angle and excellent frontal contrast. SOLUTION: A polarizing plate consists of a polarizing film and two sheets of transparent protective films arranged on the both sides. One of the transparent protective films consists of a cellulose acetate film containing cellulose acetate with acetylation degree in 59.0-61.5% range and an aromatic compound with at least two aromatic rings in 0.01-20 pts.wt. range versus 100 pts.wt. cellulose acetate, having Re retardation value in 20-70 nm range and having Rth retardation value in 70-400 nm range. Furthermore, the polarizing plate, having a slow axis of the cellulose acetate film and a transmission axis of the polarizing film arranged essentially in parallel to each other, transmissivity in 30-50% range and degree of polarization in 90-100% range, is used for the liquid crystal display device. |
