The lead-acid battery has a battery housing receiving a set of battery plates, forming positive and negative electrode plates with separator plates between them. The separator plates are provided with integral projections (3) adjacent their peripheral edges, projecting inwards for contacting one another around the outside of the electrode plate for enclosing the latter, the outer edges of the separator plates on the outside of the projections abutting the battery housing wall (5).
