PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface plasmon resonance(SPR) sensor capable of directly detecting and determining low-molecular matter such as ions and a sensor chip for the SPR sensor treated for this. SOLUTION: In this ion concentration measuring method, low-molecular matter is measured by the SPR sensor through the use of the sensor chip for SPR sensor measurement, in which a sensing layer containing matter which changes its optical absorption characteristics by capturing low-molecular matter such as sodium ions and hydrogen ions e.g. a material such as optode is provided for the surface of a metal membrane in the surface plasmon resonance(SPR) sensor. In the sensor chip for measuring low-molecular matter by the SPR sensor, the sensing layer containing the matter which changes its optical absorption characteristics by capturing the low-molecular matter is provided for the surface of the metal membrane in the SPR sensor. The SPR sensor device for measuring the low-molecular matter is provided with the sensor chip for measuring the low-molecular matter.
