The assembly consists of a steering column (2) and shaft (10) turned by a steering wheel (3) with a rim (6) and one or more radial arms (8). The radial arms are bent so that they pass behind a central fixed cushion in the steering wheel containing e.g. an air bag, horn and controls, and back into a rear cavity (27) in the cushion.
