PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply produce 4,4'-BPS in a high yield by combining suitable post-treating processes, when an advantageous solvent of aliphatic hydrocarbon is used on the reaction of phenol with sulfuric acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing 4,4'-bisphenolsulfone, comprising reacting phenol with sulfuric acid in a solvent comprising one or more aliphatic saturated hydrocarbons, adding a 1 to 3C alcohol to the reaction solution, and then recrystallizing the 4,4'-bisphenolsulfone in the separated alcohol layer. The solvent is preferably one aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon, and the boiling point of the aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon is further preferably 155 to 175 deg.C. The aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon is preferably Isoper G [trade name of Exon Chemical (KK)].
