PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both a new optically functional crystal material capable of making the best use of characteristics of simultaneous change of a spin state and a color tone same as those of an LIESST compound, eliminating the defect of the change, slight in deterioration by repetition which is a defect of the conventional photochromic materials, and expected to have an actual application to an information element, or the like, and an information element using the same. SOLUTION: This crystal material is characterized in that the crystal material changes the spin state and the color tone by photoirradiation but the change depends on intensity of irradiating light nonlinearly.
