PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner that dispenses with a signal transmission path such as a lead wire, and is improved in usability, lightness and operational easiness. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises a cleaner body 3 having a built-in blower motor 7 for generating suction force, a brush part 1 connected to the cleaner body 3, rear wheels 26 mounted on the brush part 1 for rotation following movement of the brush part 1, a generator 32 for converting the rotation of the rear wheels 26 into electric power, a brush movement sensor 33 driven by the electric power generated by the generator 32 to detect movement information on the rear wheels 26, a radio signal transmitter 35 driven by the electric power generated by the generator 32 to radio the output of the brush movement sensor 33, a radio signal receiver 36 for receiving the signal transmitted by the radio signal transmitter 35, and a CPU 11 for calculating the moving speed and moving distance of the brush part 1 from the signal received by the radio signal receiver 36 and drivingly controlling the blower motor 7 according to the calculations.
