PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove foreign matters such as metals, sand or the like from charcoal obtained from building waste or the like. SOLUTION: Two troughs 3, 4 rise obliquely upwardly from a water tank 2 and take-out ports 7 and 8 are formed to the respective upper end parts of the troughs. Individual transfer means 10, 20, extending toward the take-out ports 7, 8 from the interior of the water tank 2, are provided to the respective troughs 3 and 4. When charcoal formed by a carbonization device is charged in the water tank 2, it is transferred into the trough 4 by the transfer means 20 while cooled by the water stored in the water tank to be discharged out of the take-out port 8. Foreign matter such as metals or the like contained in charcoal is sedimented in the water tank 2 without being transferred by the transfer means 20 and discharged from the take-out port 7 of the trough 3 by the separate transfer means 10.
