PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome problems of a conventional standby channel switching system of an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system such that has sacrificed the transmission quantity by a quantity of a standby wavelength because both main and standby channels are always used for the transmission and that has caused reception of a signal of a faulty wavelength at its reception section resulting in a noise or the like because the transmission is continued without disconnecting a faulty channel even after the selection of the standby channel. SOLUTION: A transmission section 1 comprises: transmitters SA1-SAn and changeover switches SW1-SWn connected in series with transmission lines T1-Tn; and a standby channel changeover section 4 connected to the transmission lines T1-Tn. The standby channel changeover section 4 is provided with: a transmission signal selection section 5 connected in parallel with the transmission lines T1-Tn; a failure monitor section 6 that monitors a failure in the transmitters SA1-SAn; and a changeover control section 7 that turns off the changeover switches SW1-SWn on the basis of a command from the failure monitor section 6. |
