PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode-ray tube with an enhanced image grade by preventing deterioration in color purity owing to beam landing displacement caused by deformation or doming of a shadow mask. SOLUTION: A panel is equipped with a substantially rectangular effective part having a substantially flat outer surface, and a phosphor screen is formed on an inner surface of the effective part. The shadow mask disposed opposite to the phosphor screen has a substantially rectangular mask body with a multiplicity of electron beam passing holes formed therein and a mask frame for supporting peripheral parts of the mask body. Spaces between passing holes along the major axis X direction of the mask body increase from the center of the mask body toward the ends of the major axis, and the rate of change of spaces between passing holes has a maximal value between the center of the mask body and each end of the major axis.
