PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon monoxide detector having high responsiveness. SOLUTION: This carbon monoxide detector comprises a detecting element 1 formed of a first catalytic electrode 9 having a catalyst arranged in contact with one side of an electrolytic film 8 having hydrogen ion conductivity and a second catalytic electrode 10 having a catalyst arranged in contact with the other side of the electrolytic film 8; a case 12 arranged around the detecting element 1; a gas inlet part 14 having an opening and closing function for supplying a detecting gas to the case 12; a gas discharge part 15 having an opening and closing function for discharging the detecting gas in the case; a DC power source 23 connected between the first catalytic electrode 9 and the second catalytic electrode 10; and a current detecting means for detecting the current value between the first catalytic electrode 9 and the second catalytic electrode 10, which is changed according to the concentration of carbon monoxide in the detecting gas.
