<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain control characteristics independent of a polarization direction in an optical pulse controller for applying a time delay to a transmitted optical signal pulse in an optical pulse transmission line, compressing the width of the optical signal pulse and compensating dispersion. SOLUTION: An incident optical pulse 11 is made incident on photonic crystal 14 constituted of arraying a 1st member (15) and a 2nd member (16) regularly in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional direction through a lens 12a, delayed in the crystal 14 and projected through a lens 12b. A material having an anisotropic refractive index is used for either one of the 1st and 2nd members (15, 16). In the shown example, the 1st member is formed by one-axial crystal (TiO2) and the 2nd member is formed by air.</p> |
