PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the friction resistance in an uncoupled condition of a hydraulic clutch or a hydraulic brake of an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: A plurality of friction members 73 are disposed on a surface of a friction plate 68 of a wet hydraulic clutch of the automatic transmission in the circumferential direction across a plurality of oil passages 74 extending in the radial direction, and these friction members 73 are brought into contact with the surface of an annular separator plate to transmit the torque. The oil passages 74 are formed in a funnel shape so that the width W of the oil passages is reduced toward the outer side from the inner side in the radial direction. Lubricating oil left between the friction plate 68 and the separator plate can be effectively led to the oil passages 74 by the centrifugal force when both plates are uncoupled from each other, and discharged outside in the radial direction. Energy loss can be avoided by reducing the friction resistance caused by the drag of the lubricating oil.
