METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING MODULATORS OF PROTEIN INTERACTIONS

A method for identifying an agent that modulates the interaction between integrin-linked kinase (ILK) and presenilin-1 (PS1) comprises: (a) providing, as a first component, ILK or a functional variant thereof; (b) providing, as a second component, PS1 or a functional variant thereof; (c) contacting the first and second components in the presence of a test agent under conditions that, in the absence of the test agent, would permit the two components to interact; and (d) determining whether the test agent is capable of modulating the interaction between the first and second components; thereby to determine whether the test agent is a modulator of the interaction between ILK and PS1. Such an agent may be used in the treatment of conditions associated with apoptosis or Alzheimer's disease.
